Tell us your story! How did you get started in law?

After interning at the local public defender’s office in exchange for college credit, I fell in love with the law and decided to go to law school.

Fees vary greatly throughout the State of Florida but one can expect quotes anywhere from $1,000 – $10,000+.

Where can people go for help if they have drinking or substance abuse problems in Florida?

There are lots of substance abuse resources in Florida which vary greatly from county to county. Most attorneys can assist in guiding their clients to reputable local substance abuse programs.

Are there any solutions for people who have little to no income and need help with their DUI case in Florida?

The office of the local Public Defender is always an option for those who are unable to afford private counsel, however, some attorneys (including myself) offer payment plans that allow people to obtain quality representation on a budget that works for them.

If someone gets a DUI in Florida but they are from another state, what is the process like?

After a person is arrested, the office of the State Attorney decides if they are going to file the charge(s) against them. If the charge(s) are filed, the arraignment will be scheduled. It is important to get an attorney as soon as possible so that they can appear on your behalf in your case while you continue to reside out of state. Know though, that there is a possibility that you may need to appear (in person) for a court date at some point. Additionally, the administrative driver’s license suspension that can result from a DUI arrest may possibly not be observed by your particular state. Therefore, it is possible that your license (as a result of a DUI arrest) will not be suspended in the state where you reside. It is important that you speak with a knowledgeable DUI attorney regarding this issue.
